Error Control Protocols
ディジタル情報を伝送する際に，通信路で発生した誤りを受信側で検出し，効率よく再送してもらうことで，通信品質，信頼性を向上させるためのプロトコル（通信手順）です．インターネット，携帯電話システム，無線LANなどで利用されています．
Random Access Protocols
不特定多数の通信ユーザーから送信されるディジタル情報を，限りある通信資源（周波数）の中に収容するために，各ユーザーの送信タイミングを制御するプロトコル（通信手順）です．携帯電話システム，無線LANなどで利用されています．
Wireless Ad-Hoc/Sensor Networks
無線端末が互いに直接，または他の端末を経由して通信を行うことができます．基地局やアクセスポイントが必要なく，M2M（Machine-to-Machine），IoT（Internet of Things）などの新しいネットワーク形態として注目されています．
